Meet Our Team

HELEN HERZIG, OWNER

CERTIFIED LABOR DOULA, PLACENTA ENCAPSULATOR, POSTPARTUM DOULA

NOVANT CREDENTIALED

My name is Helen and I am the original “Aussie Doula” and mum to over 600 birthing families. I am a mum to 5 children from middle school through adult and “Nub-Nub” to a beautiful grandson. My accidental path to becoming a doula presented itself when a close friend asked me to come to her birth. The spark that birth inspired became the beginnings of Aussie Doula as we know it today.

My reputation spread quickly and now I have an incredible hand-picked team of doulas helping me inspire families to have supported and positive births in our local Charlotte community. I am passionate about mothering the mothers and encouraging a sense of community and connection in an ever-changing community full of natives and transplants alike. Our monthly meetups are filled with friendship, connection, and education.
My role these days is to support my team and all the families under our care. My personal client load is minimal these days but I do take a very select number of families.

CARLEY

CERTIFIED BIRTH AND POSTPARTUM DOULA, AND PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION

NOVANT CREDENTIALED

My name is Carley and I am delighted to call Charlotte my home since 2017 after relocating from England with my husband and two boys. I have fostered many children and adopted our beautiful teenage daughter after moving to Charlotte. I attended my first birth in 2003 and took training in the U.K. I took further training through DONA here in the U.S.

My belief is that if a woman feels she has choices and is in control of her body, she is more likely to feel relaxed and progress through labor, leading to a more positive and empowering birth experience. Birth does not always go as planned but having someone who fully supports your choices and holds no judgment is a powerful tool. I have worked with moms with high-risk pregnancies after my own daughter was born sleeping. When I’m not attending births I can be found enjoying nature with my family.

DEBBIE

CERTIFIED BIRTH DOULA

My name is Debbie and I am a mother to 5 adult children and grandma to an ever increasing number of grandkids. I have always been about everything family and child, and have been blessed to experience that incredible joy in my own life. When I was having my own babies, I wasn't aware there was such a thing as a doula. Oh, how I would have benefited from having one! As soon as I found out what a doula was, I knew I had found my life-long calling. I absolutely love being a doula and supporting families in their birth journey, and my families tell me it shows. I am by nature nurturing and compassionate, and the work of a doula allows that to shine. Every birth is unique and special. I love seeing our families gain confidence and go from being fearful, timid, nervous, confused, or overwhelmed to confident, informed, strong, and ready to advocate for themselves and rock their birth. It is my great honor to be welcomed into that sacred place of expectant families as they prepare for, welcome their precious babies earth side, and adjust to life with a newborn.

RAQUEL

BIRTH DOULA, REFLEXOLOGIST, REIKI PRACTITIONER, YOGA TEACHER

NOVANT CREDENTIALED

My name is Raquel and I am a mother of 2 kids & grandmother of 2. I am a very caring and compassionate person and a perfect fit for the Aussie Doula team. For years I have been a part of our team via referrals to my reflexology practice. Helen has sent many of our Aussie Doula families that have faced induction to see me, and I have been successful in allowing many of them to go into labor on their own with the help of my healing and skilled hands. I am passionate about VBAC births and have guided many expectant families to succeed in meeting their babies.

JULIE

BIRTH AND POSTPARTUM DOULA

NOVANT CREDENTIALED

My name is Julie and I am originally from Australia. I completed my Midwifery in 2006 at Latrobe University Melbourne, Australia. In 2012, I received training as a Postpartum Doula and Birth Coach from Childbirth International. Prior to relocating to the United States in 2010, I worked as a Registered Nurse and Midwife in Australia. Since then, I have practiced as a Certified Doula, providing comprehensive services for childbirth and postpartum care. In addition to my doula work, I am a successful business owner, published author, and sought-after leadership speaker at international conferences.

I currently reside in Charlotte, North Carolina with my husband, Mark, and our grown children.

BROOKE H

BIRTH DOULA, BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHER, EXERCISE SPECIALIST

NOVANT CREDENTIALED

My name is Brooke and I'm a wife & mother of two. I'm an Ohio native, but have called North Carolina home since high school. During the birth of my first child in 2016 things didn't quite go according to plan. I realized a lot of families aren't able to reflect positively on their birthing experience, and this burdened my heart to become a birth doula. I believe every family deserves to be seen, heard, and supported, no matter their birth preferences.

I studied Exercise Science in college, where I learned the amazing things our bodies are capable of. I've worked as an exercise physiologist in cardiac rehab, and a wellness coach in a hospital setting. I've worked specifically with women with high blood pressure and diabetes. I was also in full-time ministry. I have learned to meet people where they're at, to comfort and hold space for them. These experiences brought me to a new understanding of wholeness - body, mind, and spirit.

It would be my honor and privilege to serve you in this important season of life.

SUZI

BIRTH DOULA

My name is Suzi and I love births and babies! My top goals as a doula are to help couples manage their expectations so they make informed decisions to ensure that they have no regrets throughout the birthing process. I was certified as a doula in 1996 while pregnant with my fourth child. I worked full-time for the next nine years assisting hundreds of families to deliver their babies.  A cross-country move from Scottsdale, AZ brought our family to NC with four teenagers so the on-call life took a back seat. Now as a Gigi to six beautiful grandchildren, I would love to assist you in this amazing birth journey.

Donna

Birth and Postpartum Doula

NOVANT CREDENTIALED

I’m Donna, mom of six wonderful people ages 16-29 and grandma to two special sweeties. My husband of 32 years and I moved to the Charlotte area from my home state of Maine in 2016, following our oldest daughter who had married a local. My children were all born at home and we have been very blessed to homeschool all our kids (just two left to go). I am a CNA with years of baby experience as well as a Birth and Postpartum certified Doula. My passion is helping families with their little ones as I strive to lovingly teach parents to learn from their babies. I am my children’s biggest cheerleader and will be yours also, as I with no judgment or bias lead you to make decisions that are the very best for you and your baby. My husband is of Greek descent and in Greek doula means a woman who serves. I look forward to serving your family.

RACHEL

BIRTH DOULA

My name is Rachel and I am a mama to two crazy kiddos and one dog. I'm originally from Delaware but have called North Carolina home since attending Elon University, and my high school sweetheart husband and I have called Charlotte "home" since 2013.

I have been immersed in the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum world since 2017 and had two amazing doula-attended births of my own. I've seen firsthand what it's like to have long and difficult labors, challenging physical and/or emotional recoveries in the postpartum period, and just about every breastfeeding struggle in the book. It is my hope that the skills I've learned in finding good help and working to identify solutions that aid both Mama AND Baby in equal measure can help other families.

If I'm not chasing after my children or cleaning up their messes, you can find me traveling, reading, DIYing, cross-stitching, or watching really bad or really good TV (there is no in-between in my life). My family and I are based in south Charlotte, but I serve within a one-hour radius of my home. I hope we will have the opportunity to meet soon!

KENYeTTA

CERTIFIED birth DOULA, PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION SPECIALIST, CHILDBIRTH EDUCATOR & MIDWIFE ASSISTANT

NOVANT CREDENTIALED

My name is Kenyetta & I am a mother of two handsome boys born through Cesarean (emergency & scheduled). I am from Flint, MI by way of St. Louis, MO. I have been in Charlotte since 2015 and I have family in Rockingham and Fayetteville. I have wanted to work with pregnant women and children since I was a teenager. I went to school and obtained my degrees in Child and Family Studies and Psychology. Life took me another route with children and families and I worked in Group Homes, providing Community Support and Intensive Care services. I have also been a daycare teacher and a substitute teacher for CMS and Montessori Schools. In my free time, I like to attend comedy and poetry shows, or just relax in the corner of my sectional and watch television all day. I believe every expecting family and mom-to-be deserves to have a beautiful birthing experience. I believe that building your support team is a part of that process, as those you choose to share this moment in life with are vital!

I am an Evidence-Based Birth Professional Member,  have training in client advocating, implicit bias, and trauma,  and have experience with previous trauma/loss myself. I use my many years of experience, both personal and professional, to give my clients the care and resources they deserve during this pivotal point in their lives.

Traveling, meeting new people, and the variety of experiences that I have had still live within me each and every day. My professional background is in Hospitality and Business Management as I love connecting with people but from a young age, my heart has always been with Mothers and Babies. When I am not "doula'ing I enjoy spending time with my family, crafting, baking, and listening to music.

Birth is such a special time for families and my goal as your Doula is to be your cheerleader reminding you of your power, support you emotionally and physically, and provide you with evidence-based information so that you can make the most informed decisions. I can’t wait to walk alongside you on your birth journey to meet your little one.

My doulas really helped me and my husband through the whole process, giving us the support and education we wanted. I am certified through ProDoula. I would love to give your family non-judgmental support during your pregnancy and birth, wherever and however is right for your family! Prior to becoming a Doula, I had been a Speech Language Pathologist for almost 10 years! I also enjoy yoga, being outside, and reading research articles (I’m a nerd at heart)!

NICOLE

BIRTH DOULA, PHOTOGRAPHER (BACKUP BIRTH DOULA ONLY IN 2023)

NOVANT CREDENTIALED

My name is Nicole. Helping mothers on their journey from pregnancy through birth is what lights me up inside. I first fell in love with birth work after the birth of my second daughter. I had made the decision to hire a midwife to help me achieve the VBAC I desperately wanted after a c-section sidetracked my birth plan the first time around. She made me feel safe and strong and never questioned that I could do it. And I did do it. I first started my birth work journey as a birth photographer, but soon realized that I wanted to be able to provide additional support to my clients that went beyond my camera lens. I received my doula training through ProDoula and have experience supporting births in various settings -- homes, birth centers, and hospitals -- in and around the Charlotte metropolitan area. I'm excited to use my knowledge and experience to provide exceptional emotional support and physical comfort for you while communicating with your birth team to ensure you have all the information you need to make informed decisions throughout your pregnancy and birth. I will provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, offer suggestions on how to help labor progress and aid you with relaxation techniques and comfort measures. When I’m not at a birth and/or behind the camera, I’m living my best life with my two fierce little girls, Madeline and Nora, and my wonderful husband, Aaron

CATHERINE

BIRTH DOULA & POSTPARTUM DOULA

Hello everyone! I’m Catherine, but my friends call me Cat! I attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and graduated with a psychology major and a Spanish minor. Throughout school, I gained a deep love for prenatal development as well as the infant’s first year of life outside the womb. As the oldest of three girls, my love for babies emerged when my youngest sister was brought home from the hospital, and it has grown ever since. My husband says he always knows where to find me in a room full of people – either holding a baby or talking to an expectant mother. Prior to becoming a doula I worked as a nanny and this experience has sparked in me even more passion for walking with mothers during the postpartum period. I am certified as both a Labor Doula and a Postpartum Doula through ProDoula and have a distinct passion for postpartum work. I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to accompany many more mothers and babies into the days and weeks that follow birth. I hope to meet you soon!

MYRA

BIRTH & POSTPARTUM DOULA

Hello, I’m Myra. I am a postpartum doula and Newborn Care Specialist with over 17 years of experience in infant and child care. I started my career as a birth doula 7 years ago. I quickly found my passion in postpartum care. Caring for mothers and their families is my one true passion. I have spent the last 6 years helping to raise 3 kids as their nanny. It is such a pleasure and an honor to be a part of these families and watch them grow through the years.

When I’m not chasing around kids or swaddling babies to sleep you can find me snuggling with my pets, fixing up my old house and hanging with my family.

STACIE

BIRTH & POSTPARTUM DOULA

My name is Stacie, and I am the daughter of a career military serviceman. Growing up, I had the opportunity to adventure across the United States and Europe. As an adult, I have lived and traveled overseas with my husband and four children, working as a humanitarian volunteer and teacher. In 2013, our family made the decision to settle in Charlotte, and we have been happy to call it home ever since. Throughout my life, I have enjoyed connecting with women from diverse backgrounds, countries, and cultures, bonding over our shared experiences of pregnancy, birth stories, motherhood, and womanhood. I believe in the power of sister-friends and know that we are stronger together when we uplift and support one another. Giving, holding, and speaking life brings me immense joy. I am a mother of four living children and two otherworldly souls. If there is a baby nearby, my arms are usually full. I have birthed my four children in a hospital setting, two with a midwife, and two with my OB/GYN. Throughout my life, I have mentored many women through various stages of womanhood, including pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, parenting, child development, love, and loss. When I'm not working with mothers and babies, I am educating high school students as an English teacher. My vision for my role as a birth and postpartum doula is captured by the words of poet Emily Dickinson: “If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain; If I can ease one life the aching, Or cool one pain, Or help one fainting robin Unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain.” I look forward to sharing in your birth adventure. May my hands and heart bring ease and comfort to you and yours

SHELBY

BIRTH & POSTPARTUM DOULA

Hi, I’m Shelby, a certified labor and postpartum doula in Charlotte, NC. I thrive when I am helping others learn and grow, and I especially enjoy partnering with families as they transition to a new part of their family story. When I am not working as a doula, I am hanging out with my two boys and husband or enjoying a nice day outside with a book.

Every birth is a new chapter in a family’s story and can set the tone for the postpartum period. There is no guarantee for the details of any of our births, but we can cultivate birthing teams that understand and support our birthing goals. As a labor doula, it’s a privilege to listen to the desires and fears of my clients and bring my knowledge and experience alongside their unique story. It’s my hope to bring calm and care to each birthing experience and to help each birthing person feel seen and empowered in their experience.

Parenthood is one of life’s biggest transitions, and often the support we receive can make the difference. In both of my transitions into motherhood, I found the support of my friends and family to be essential to how I navigated breastfeeding, the fourth trimester, and loneliness. A few weeks after the birth of my second son, we moved away from our supporting village, and I truly saw the value of the help we were now desperately without. I could have used a postpartum doula those days, and even in the midst of the transition to a first time parent. After my experiences and struggles, I found a real passion for the successful transition of new families and partnered that passion with training that equipped me to care for them.

JASMINE

BIRTH & POSTPARTUM

My name is Jasmine! I am a mother of two wonderful boys. My oldest, was born via emergency C-section and my youngest, was born in the comfort of my own home. I have my bachelors in Physical Education and a masters in Rehabilitation Counseling. I knew that I had a purpose in the birthworking community, when I fell in love with breastfeeding my oldest son. I’ve helped close family members and friends and continued to do extensive research. Since then, I decided to expand my purpose to become a birth doula. I have experience with postpartum support, placenta encapsulation, and breastfeeding support. I strive to assist families by recommending evidence based research and holistic approaches. A mother and partner should be able to make their informed decisions on what they decide is best for their baby. I am here to guide and support to what decisions are made.
